The Forbestown Ridge Fire Safe Council is a volunteer group of citizens concerned with the reduction of loss from wildfires.
Mission: The Forbestown Ridge Fire Safe Council works under the direction, and carries out the mission of the Butte County Fire Safe Council by providing fire prevention education and preparedness programs and promoting healthy forests and watersheds in our wildland communities.
Meeting Date & Time The FRFSC meets on the second Tuesday day of each month at 6:30 P.M. at Cal Fire Station 54 located at the intersection of Forbestown Rd and Robinson Mill Rd.
2010 Objectives: At its inception in 2009, the goals of the Forbestown Ridge Fire Safe Council are as follows:
- Educate Forbestown Ridge Residents regarding fire hazards and fire behavior under the guidance of our volunteer and professional fire fighting agencies, Butte Fire Save Council and other appropriate resources.
- Assist emergency responders and residents throughout our community by promoting reflective address, road and water signage, and roadways adequate for emergency traffic.
- Encourage Forbestown Ridge residents to create and maintain defensible space around homes and other structures by providing Fire Wise education, examples, assistance or instruction.
- Encourage Forbestown Ridge residents to reduce fire hazardous forest vegetation, including invasive plants or pests.
- Protect air and water quality
- Obtain grants, contributions and other funding sources.
- Identify and prioritize future mitigation and other projects.
- Collaborate and cooperate with adjoining Fire Safe Councils or other appropriate agencies and organizations for mutual benefit and protection.
- Participate in the development of the Butte County Community Wildfire Protection Plan and Cal-Fire Butte Unit Fire Management Plan.
Our Region The area of the Forbestown Ridge Fire Safe Council is along Forbestown Road roughly bounded by Hurleton-Swedes Flat Road at the SW, South Fork of the Feather River at the NW, Lost Creek Reservoir at the NE and the Butte County line at the SE.
An Open Invitation Any and all individuals interested in reducing our area’s threat of devastation from wildfires are cordially invited to attend our meetings and participate in whatever manner you wish. We can advise and guide homeowners in protection measure for their property. We have a free chipper program available to all residents and fire hazard reduction assistance available for low income, elderly or disabled residents.
